Growth Hacking With Remote Work for Startups | Thankz Podcast Ep.2

In this episode of the Thankz Podcast, Leo Gestetner, CEO of Thankz, interviews Jonathan Aufray – a digital marketing expert who has been working remotely for over seven years. They discuss the benefits of remote work, as well as growth hacking strategies for startups.

Working Remotely

Originally from France, Jonathan moved to Taiwan 10 years ago and has spent the last 15-20 years working with small and medium businesses worldwide. After noticing that tech founders were great at engineering and creating products but often struggled with marketing, he was inspired to start his own digital marketing agency.

Jonathan’s company is fully remote, with most of his team based in the Philippines and others in Canada, France, Nigeria, and Croatia. Jonathan shares the key to productivity with remote teams is assessing team members’ performance within the first two to three months. If the employee demonstrates independence and consistent performance, they are more likely to remain productive in the long term.

Tools and Techniques for Managing a Remote Team

For managing projects and communication, Jonathan’s team uses tools like Slack and ClickUp. He believes that having a weekly to-do list helps team members stay on track and manage their time effectively. Jonathan emphasizes the importance of regular check-ins and team meetings to maintain open communication lines and address any issues or concerns promptly.

Impact of COVID-19 on Remote Work

The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t change much for Jonathan’s company since they were already operating remotely before the crisis. In fact, the shift towards remote work has benefited them, as more companies are now open to hiring remote agencies instead of insisting on in-house teams.

Growth Hacking Strategies for Startups

During the podcast, Jonathan shares valuable insights on growth hacking strategies that startups can adopt to scale their businesses quickly. He emphasizes the importance of understanding your target audience and creating personalized content that resonates with them. Additionally, leveraging social media platforms, email marketing, and SEO can significantly contribute to a startup’s growth.
